The board members volunteer their time to help make a difference in your community.
I've lived in Grand Lake - Oakfield for almost 60 years, landed in Canada on July 20th, 1957, (3 years old), at Pier 21 on the ship the Waterman from Rotterdam, Holland, our family of six . I've been involved a long time with the community of Grand lake-Oakfield in many different areas. I got involved in the Volunteer Fire Department, saw many changes and up grades (33 years) started when I was 19 years old. During that time I was Fire Chief from 1986 -1996

He also performs around the community with the Bands Catch the Wind and the Double D’s.
Louise was born in Newfoundland and moved to Nova Scotia in 1986 with her two daughters Courtney and Kelly. Louise later Married Eric Frank McDow and reside in Grand Lake. Louise continues to help support the community where she can despite the busy life of Art and Music and full time employment at IMP Aerospace and three Grandchildren.
The Ladies Auxiliary was started by Nola Hines and a group of ladies in the community many years ago. The built a strong tradition of hosting community events.
Nola had 13 children. Many of them, as well as their spouses and children helped at the hall. Some still help today, even if they don't live in the community.
In recent years, we have focused on keeping the tradition alive with many events for families and children.
The Ladies Auxiliary is run by Bonnie Hines and Vivian Kohout. Bonnie, who is Nola's daughter - in- law, has lived in the community for 38 years. Vivian Kohout has lived in the community for 49 years.
The Ladies Auxiliary is not a formal group. They have a great support system in the community. Lots of people are willing to lend a hand when needed to help make events successful.
The Ladies would would love to see some new people get involved, and are always looking for helpers. Working these events is always fun and a great way to meet new people,or socialize with old friends.
Vivan and Bonnie look forward to meeting you soon!
Rebecca manages the communication strategy and gets our community news out via Facebook and the website.
Rebecca and her husband Travis, and three children gratefully moved to Grand Lake / Oakfield in 2010 from Waverley. Rebecca and Travis love raising their family on Strawberry Hill and enjoy supporting the community through communications and volunteering when possible.
Community Member at large
As a working mother of two, a sense of community was a very important factor in choosing a home; as a REALTOR® it was even more important I made the right choice the first time. Grand Lake became the perfect choice in 2005 and continues to foster the values of respect, community, and family. It’s a neighbourhood that gives us access to great schools, great neighbours and community events that you will not find living in the city. I became involved with the Grand Lake/Oakfield Community because I have pride in my community and want to give back to the people who work so hard to make this a great place to live!
